What do I need in order to connect to Internet?
It is possible to register the internet connection with WiFi from your own broadband router or with a computer directly connected to the network socket in the wall. A broadband router enables multiple computers and mobiles to be connected at the same time.

How do I activate my connection?
The registration is done by connecting the computer or a broadband router to the network socket on the wall. Follow instructions How do I get Started? for a detailed description.
Who is the Internet Service Provider?
SGS Studentbostäder provides Internet service to SGS all its properties and largely those we manage in blocks. Search here on our website to find out if SGS Studentbostäder is the Internet Service Provider for your area or building.
Can I get help with the installation of my broadband router?

Which broadband router should I get to have 1Gbit/s?
Look for following specifications on a broadband router.

Where do I connect my computer?
Usually there is a network socket in the wall inside the apartment where you can plug in your computer with a network cable. There are some apartments with more than one network socket. Look for information inside the apartment or read more about Several Internet Sockets on our website.
I don't have any ethernet port on my laptop. How can I connect to Internet?
You can connect a broadband router and setup a wireless connection. A broadband router enables you to surf anywhere in your home with more then one device simultaneously.
Is there a data limit?
There is no limit in terms of up- and download.
How do I change the configuration of the router?
There are many different brands and models of broadband routers. For more specific information on how to set up your broadband router, please refer to your manual. You should connect a network cable between the network socket in your apartment and the “WAN” or “Internet port” on the broadband router. Your computers should then be connected to the “LAN” or “Local ports” on the broadband router. Your broadband router’s WAN and LAN Internet port should be configured to use DHCP or dynamic assignment of IP addresses. Please refer to your manual for exact instructions how to configure this.
How do I measure my connection speed?
For testing your connection we recommend a free service provided by Bredbandskollen / Speedtest. With Bredbandskollen / Speedtest you can quickly and easily measure the speed of your broadband connection.
What IP address do I have?
You can view your IP-address you get after activating the Internet by go to https://hemma.sgs.se.
Are there any difference between cable and wireless connection?
There is a difference between cable and wireless connection when it comes to capacity. There are many ways that you can do to improve or even ruin the experience. For maximum speed wirelessly, you need a computer that can handle high speeds combined with a powerful broadband router.
I can only use one computer at a time, why is it so?
Upon registration, one obtains only one IP address. This means that you can only have Internet access for one computer at a time simultaneously. A broadband router allows Internet access to multiple computers simultaneously through NAT (Network Address Translation).
How do I connect to SGS-Student in common premises?
Wireless network SGS-Student is using an authentication method called dot1x. Read more about SGSNET Wireless what settings need to be made on the computer to authenticate to eduroam.
Are you monitoring me?
No, we do not monitor or log your data traffic.
Why am I moved to quarantine?
Your connection will be moved to virus quarantine if we receive indications that your computer is virus - infected. You may not click past the virus - detection without removing the virus from your computer first. Your computer may cause major problem on the Internet and allow our network to be listed in so-called "Blacklists". If we in future find your computer continuously become infected with a virus, it can be talk of a temporary suspension, until you have corrected it. Please feel free to ask us for help if you cannot find the virus and remove it on your computer.

Why do I lose my internet connection?
There can be many reasons. Most common interruptions occur when the connected computer and / or broadband router fail to renew the assigned IP address. Then you must restart the computer and / or broadband router for it to work again. If you have a broadband router, try to disconnect it and connect the computer directly to the socket in the wall to see if the problem persists. Also try connecting the computer with a different network cable. Problem may lie somewhere in the broadband router if the computer get a connection.
Are there any ports that are blocked?
A newly registered connection have a few blocked ports. It is possible to select the security level of your connection. You do this under the tab Security in SGS Home panel. You can choose between OPEN, NORMAL and PROTECTED.

Where should I place my router?
Placement of the router should be centrally located in the residence, ideally one meter above the ground. Avoid placing your router near appliances such as microwave, aquarium or electronic devices with Bluetooth that can interfere with the wireless connection. A rule of thumb is to avoid placing inside cabinets, closets or behind thick walls. Try it out by testing the speed with Bredbandskollen / Speedtest services.
How do I get faster WiFi?
Sometimes it may be that you and your neighbors share the same channel, which of course means that the signal can be disrupted. You can check this for yourself by downloading any of the following analytical tools that are free to Android and Windows.

Most new broadband routers support both 2.4 and 5 GHz. 2.4 GHz have slower data rates and are more prone to interference because there are always a large number of devices and applications using this frequency. If your router supports both frequencies, try changing the frequency to 5 GHz. See also Where should I place my router?

I got an email from you saying that my computer(s) is affected by a malware?
You can receive an email from us when one or more of your computers is affected by a malware when using the SGS broadband connection in your flat. SGS recommends you to disconnect the computer(s) from the network and use an antivirus program with newest virus and spyware definitions and examine the computer(s). If you do not have good reasons to assume that your computer(s) is infected, the computer(s) should be reinstalled, as it is very difficult to do a complete cleanup of malware without a fresh installation.
SGS DoorControl does not work?
The SGS DoorControl lets you open the front door to your apartment building if your area is equipped with this feature. The button only works if your device is connected to the Home network.
On Android. Connect to your Home network and set Private-DNS to Off.- Go to Settings > Network & Internet (More Connections settings) > Set Private DNS to Off
On iPhone. Connect to your Home network and disable Limit IP Address Tracking and Private Address.
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Click on ( i ) to the network you are connected to > Disable Limit IP Address Tracking
- Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Click on the ( i ) of the network you are connected to > Disable Private Address
